Emotional Labor: Regulating the Self and Others for a Wage

Emotional labor involves regulating emotions in others for economic gain, but potentially with personal costs. I will describe how employees balance emotional labor requirements with the need for self-expression during workplace threats to the self (i.e., angry customers and organizational scandal) and the implications for health and performance.
