|Dean of the College of Education|
| Temple University seeks a visionary and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Dean of the College of Education. A comprehensive public research university in an urban setting, Temple is the 27th largest university in the U.S. and one of the nation’s leading centers of professional education. With over 38,000 students, the university has experienced student enrollment growth of 29% over the last decade, while recruiting nearly 520 senior faculty, the largest influx in the university's history.
The College of Education is a national center of excellence in both teaching and research with two departments: one focusing on K-12 education and the other on psychological, organizational and leadership studies including higher education, psychological practices in education, and adult and organizational development. With 1375 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students, the College has a history of strong collaboration with the School District of Philadelphia and is the largest supplier of teachers for the region and the state. New faculty hires in recent years have increased the College’s research profile, bringing externally funded research expenditures to $9 million in 2012. By pursuing initiatives such as TUteach, a joint endeavor with the College of Science and Technology to train science and math teachers, the College of Education continually seeks innovative models of teaching and learning, enabling its graduates to become leaders in the field.
The Dean will join a new University leadership team and a cohort of new deans who will shape the future direction of the university and define its culture for the next decade. Appointed by the president and reporting to the provost, the new dean will be a respected academic leader who can support the faculty in their research and teaching, and a visionary institution builder, who can cultivate entrepreneurship within the College. The Dean will have the latitude and support to create programs that are sustainable for the College and transformative for the field of education. The Dean will share in the College’s progressive vision of educational practice, its deep commitment to diversity and social transformation, and its pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and educational improvement.
The position calls for a person with proven leadership and imagination who can help to build the research enterprise of the College, address enrollment challenges, strengthen the traditional collaborative engagement with the Philadelphia community, and expand cross-college partnerships that best prepare teachers for the current educational landscape.
