Bucknell University, Department of Psychology invites applications for an open-rank (tenure-track) position beginning in August 2014 in the area of Comparative Cognition and Behavior. Research with captive primates is preferred. We seek a teacher-scholar whose experience and expertise can contribute to working with a diverse student body.

Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the five-course per year teaching load, the successful candidate will be expected to teach from among: General Psychology (individual or team-taught options), lecture and research methods courses in Learning, lecture and research methods courses in Animal Behavior, and an advanced seminar in the candidate's area of interest.


Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to our College Core Curriculum: opportunities and institutional support exist for developing first-year foundation seminars, sophomore-year team-taught integrated perspective courses, and writing-intensive courses in the discipline. An active research program that involves mentorship of undergraduates is expected. Opportunity exists to supervise Master's degree students in Psychology and in Animal Behavior. University facilities support teaching and research in Animal Behavior and include 4 species of primates.

Minimum Qualifications

For an entry-level hire, a completed Ph.D. in Comparative Psychology, Animal Behavior, or in a related field is required, and postdoctoral research experience is desirable. Appointment at a senior rank, without tenure, will be considered for outstanding candidates with demonstrated success in undergraduate mentorship and a record of leadership consistent with the teacher-scholar model.
