The Department of Counseling and Applied Educational Psychology, Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University, is in the unique position of being able to invite three candidates to contribute to the department’s continuing endeavors to integrate the psychological and behavioral aspects of physical and mental health into its programs and research. Applicants should have expertise in a field of applied psychology with a strong research background in mental and behavioral health sciences. We are looking for candidates who will contribute to the development of a large-scope, applied psychology department with the mission of developing research, education and outreach programs. The department is focused on the contributions of psychology to integrated health care in a variety of health, educational, governmental, community, organizational, and private settings. These three (3) positions involve: (1) mentoring students at the master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral level; (2) conducting funded research, and (3) providing leadership and participating in programs of the department and college. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach graduate courses in his/her field of expertise and related areas according to department needs.
The Department prepares students to meet the behavioral, mental, educational, and developmental health needs of children and adults within an ecological and multicultural perspective and to conduct research in applied psychology. It currently offers graduate-level programs in counseling psychology, school psychology, college student development counseling, applied behavior analysis, and early intervention, including PhD programs in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology. In addition, the department supports the development of new programs within its overall mission. Each of these programs is well connected to the health care system, school systems, and community agencies in the Boston metropolitan area.
Salary will be commensurate with education, training, and experience and includes an outstanding benefits package. The start date for these positions will be August, 2014.
The required qualifications include a doctoral degree in psychology or a closely related field; a record of research and external funding; demonstrated academic leadership; effective interpersonal skills; and documented teaching effectiveness. Preference will be given to candidates whose work focuses on the reciprocal relationship between psychology and health status in a socio-cultural context.
